After years of health problems and extended periods of medical leave, Apple's Board of Directors announced last night that Steve Jobs will be resigning as Apple CEO, effective immediately.
Steve Jobs returned to his former company as the 'interim' CEO in 1996 and he dropped the 'interim' part of his title in 2000. Under his captaincy, the company has returned to it's former glory, creating good hardware devices backed up by an excellent eco-system.
Devices like the iPod, the iPhone and Macbooks are now ubiquitous with the word 'Apple'.
Steve has asked that the Chief Operating Officer, Tim Cook, be appointed as his successor.
Apple's share price has dropped by 7% since the announcement.
Is this the end of an era?
