Life

Gamer dads

So I haven't blogged in a while.

What else is new?

Things have been hectic (again) for the last few weeks with regards to both my work and personal life.

I went for a holiday in Cape Town beginning February. We held a funeral for one of my wife's aunts last week. Also, I improved my cycling record on my 35km cycle to the office.

Those were the memorable things that have happened during the past few weeks. It was all the hectic stuff in between that made blogging nearly impossible.

Back on topic though.  read more »

Oink

I am currently on my back, in bed, sick as a dog.

Well, more accurately, sick as a pig.

I leave the training center at four in the afternoon with a mild head-ache. When I get home, I have chills, neck-aches, a sore throat and a high fever. This is in three hours time! So it's off to the doctor the next morning.

The doctor's let me know that I probably have swine flu. In fact, most of the flu cases in South Africa today have a very big chance of being swine flu.

I can't send away blood samples for tests though.  read more »

The lurking beast

It has been lurking for a while now. Waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Waiting to catch me unaware.

This morning it struck. I was left defenseless.

This morning, I had my first asthma attack in two months. Not a bad one, but even as I write this entry, I can feel my breath being short and not getting the same amount of oxygen into my lungs that I normally do.

I didn't have my asthma pump with me either. Quite stupid of me actually.  read more »

You what?

Had an interesting thing happen to myself and my friend today.

Marco was giving me a lift to the offices where we work. After standing still at a traffic light for a few seconds, next thing we know, we get bumped.

Not hard, but enough to move us about 10cm or so forward.

Not a good way to start a Friday morning.

What happened next though, is too good not too share.

We both pull our cars off to the side, put on hazards, etc.

Marco immediately starts taking pictures with the cellphone of the other drivers' registration numbers, etc.  read more »

Sick over a weekend... At least there was sport

I hate being sick. What's worse though, is being sick over the weekend. You get two days that you get to rest, unwind and relax before the rat race for the next week starts again.

Now, you end up lying in bed, nose all blocked up, ready to hurl at any moment. Lying down watching Top Gear reruns. At least Jeremy Clarkson makes me laugh... even though it hurts to laugh.  read more »

Fitness and the Geek

Yes I can I am not old.

I still play computer games. I enjoy a competitive game of cricket or soccer as much as the next guy. I like playing games with the nieces and nephews and should someone challenge me to a race (running or cycling), I'll probably accept no matter how badly I will lose.

I'm also not young either.

I'm two years away from turning the ripe old age of 30.  read more »

Omegle - Strange and Wonderful

I know I haven't posted in a while, but this is just too good to pass on! So I'm making time to post this.

Check out the following website called Omegle. It allows you to chat with a complete stranger... at random. Whenever you want.

It's a quirky idea, but I suddenly found myself chatting to complete strangers for no reason at all... and enjoying it!

Maybe it's because I can finally overlook the parental advice warning us 'not to talk to strangers' and be quite safe about it?

Life Happens...

So it's been a while since I have blogged.

On one side of the coin, I feel guilty, as my blog really is something quite personal to me. A place where I can vent, discuss, share, opine (is that even a word?) and just plain get my thoughts out of my head.

The flipside of the coin reflects something different though. Life has been hectic and I really don't feel guilty for taking some 'me time'.

The last few months have been somewhat of a blur and it has only been the last week or so that things finally started feeling normal again.  read more »
