Pay what you want for World of Goo
Just had to inform everyone about the promotional sale currently on at 2D Boy, the independent developer behind the smash hit, World of Goo.
The guys behind 2D Boy are celebrating the first anniversary of the game with a very special promotion.
Buy World of Goo now, and pay for it... whatever you want to.
That's right, if you want to pay 1c for the game, you can. You go to their games page, click the "Buy Now" button, enter some details to create a PayPal account and then the amount you wish to donate. Regardless of what you entered, you will be rewarded with a shiny download link to the full version of the game, for your enjoyment.
And don't use your platform as an excuse either. World of Goo has been ported to multiple platforms, including Linux and Macintosh.
I know I can buy the game for 1c, but I just couldn't do it. I donated $5 towards 2D Boy and as promised, I was rewarded with my download link. Should be done by the time this article is finished, weighing in at a very modest 65MB. I couldn't get it over my heart to pay just 1c. As Ron Carmel from 2D Boy said, anything under 30c basically put nothing into their own pockets and PayPal took it all. Actually, the guys have been quite open about their proceeds, even displaying bar charts showing what the average person donated.
I have been dabbling in game development myself and I have major respect for these guys. I know how much hard work goes into making even the simplest game. So even though I wanted to pay more than $5 for the game, that's all I can afford right now. There's just no way I could pay less for it.
So for those of you who believe in supporting independent developers and helping out the little guys, head on over to their website and ">buy that game!
Personal request from my side: Just try not to pay less than 30c?
Remember, this promotion is only on until the 25th of October. Not sure about the timezone, so don't leave it until the last minute!
