Xbox is up and running again - Yatta!
I did it! My Xbox 360 is working again.
It was a late night (into early morning) last night, but it was worth it. When you first boot that sucker up and see the ugly Xbox logo spinning around, you almost want to cry.
Anyway, without getting too emotional, let me tell you the story.
I'm not going to go into too much detail here regarding the fix itself (although I will upload pictures of my Xbox in pieces at a later stage) as most of the detail and tutorial sites were laid out in my previous post.
The only link I could add is this one at Xbox-Experts, as they had far better pictures than all the others. So while I didn't use their tutorial directly, their pictures helped me through a lot of hitches.
I finally had the chance to buy some of the hardware I needed. The list:
- 5mm x 12mm Cheease Head Screws (or anything with a flat head really). You need about 8, so buying one packet will do.
- 5mm Steel Washers (1mm thick), you need about 16 of these
- 5mm Steel Spring Washers, you need about 8 of these
Then I proceeded to pull it apart...
To be honest though, there was a point when I was looking at all the parts on the table and wondering to myself how I'm going to get everything back together again.
All's well that ends well though.
I implemented the new washers and screws, booted up the shell of an Xbox, and it worked!
The guys on most of the tutorial sites recommend that I stress test the thing a bit, as more heat can warp the board slightly again and once again might make the Xbox overheat. In this case, I open it up again, tighten a screw or two, and we're back in business!
I'm definitely stress testing it this weekend though. I am so close to finishing Bioshock!

X Box
Manie - I had my doubts about you doing your own fix.
BUT - now i know that you must've inherited some of
your parents practical genes.
Let me know if there are other games you might want - would like to have.
never played an x box before
never played an x box before but i have heard a lot of good things
Availability?
Don't you play because you're not a gamer? Or is it something else like availability in your country?
the former
i am not really a gamer. don't get me wrong, i like playing a nice computer/video game once in a while but not to the extent of getting my own console. i haven't even seen the x box 360 or played the ps 3 but i have friends who have and they say that it is addictive
