The race card again?

Let me start by saying this: I am not a racist!

The scary thing is, I have been so conditioned by defending myself every time I say it, that I still feel guilty when I do say it. Why is that I have to defend myself because I have a white skin?

I know this rant looks random, but it's not.

It all started with the plight of Caster Semenya and the question regarding her gender.

Let's be honest here, she looks a little butch, but I'm sure that's where it stops. If the IAAF wants to double check whether she is really a woman or not, that's their perogative.

Unfortunately, this whole gender incident scratched open even more wounds.

Semenya's family has claimed that the test is 'racist' because people cannot accept that a black person can achieve anything or do well at anything.

Yes, that's what they said...

Let's ignore the fact that the president of the IAAF, Lamine Diack, is a black person from Senegal. Let's ignore the fact that I was very proud when I watched the video where she left her opponents in the dust!

Why is it that a lot of black people (I'm trying my hardest not to generalise here) pull the race card when they feel threatened? Even when they are not?

To make matters worse, Athletics South Africa president, Leonard Chuene, has also jumped into the fray with his two cents.

Through all of it though, as offended as I am by being called a racist every time someone sees my white skin, I feel more sorry for Caster. The whole gender/racism issue is over-shadowing her brilliant victory at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin.

Why can't we put the past behind us and just keep looking toward the future?

Congratulations Caster! You deserve it.
