StarCraft II - No LAN capabilities?
Apparently, there has been a lot of StarCraft II news floating around on the web for the past day or two.
So I started trawling through the different titbits until I found this interview by IncGamers, where they are speaking to Rob Pardo and other designers behind the new game in the StarCraft franchise.
When asked about whether the game will be supported over a LAN, IncGamers got confusing answers from two other designers, but Rob Pardo immediately stated: "we have no plans to support LAN". He made this even more clear by adding: "we will not support it".
I've been to many a LAN where StarCraft gets played to death. I still look at some of my friends now and say: "How about it? My Terran versus your Protoss?", and before you know it, we have a game or two going.
So why on earth would they remove the LAN support? I wouldn't be surprised if many gamers have a small hernia/stroke regarding this statement.
I'm sure in America you get lots of LAN parties that have internet access, but it just is not going to be happening here.
Guess someone will have to rewrite Bnetd again.
There were all sorts of other news items announced by Blizzard, of which you can read a round-up of all the news here.
I am just too annoyed at the moment to talk about anything else.
What do you think about the lack of LAN support?

Una demostración de cómo se hubiera visto el StarCraft en un ATARI… (!)

Wow! The Starcraft 2 Beta is finally here!
I didn't honestly think this day would come... To be honest, I still don't believe it's here!
I feel like I've waited longer than a decade (the time span from the original release of Starcraft 1) for the beta of this damn game to finally come...
But it's here! I just downloaded my copy. The UI of the program is really sleek and sexy..
I didn't have an invite key, but luckily I just got one from the homepage I listed. Good luck and see you guys there!
Crazy Decision
Wow, that is a very foolish decision indeed. Although the majority of people use the net for multiplayer gaming there is still good support for LAN. LAN parties are the bomb and many prefer direct connection then using internet as a gateway. This is like a bakery deciding they no longer want to sell bread IMO.
Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!
I first had to check the date to ensure that this isn't a April Fool's joke!!!
I can't believe that they will be so short-sighted as to stop LAN support. Apparently it is because of piracy:
"While this was a difficult decision for us, we felt that moving away from LAN play and directing players to our upgraded Battle.net service was the best option to ensure a quality multiplayer experience with StarCraft II and safeguard against piracy."
Somehow, I think a lot of people won't bother to get the game because of this. I was looking forward to buying this (even after the news of 3 seperate titles), but what is the point if you can't get together with a few friends to play a couple of games? Now, if you do get together, everyone will need their own ADSL line (because of caps and latency) just to play with the guy sitting next to you.
Here is hoping to a new version of Bnetd and that they don't make the same mistake in Diablo III.
