Cycling with my wife
I don't really want to turn this into a cycling blog, but so far, it almost looks like that is the direction I'm headed.
Don't worry, I'll still keep everyone updated on the gaming and coding in my life, but cycling will now just be a part of my blogging, as much as it is now a part of my life.
Including Sunday, I must have done about 60km's on the bicycle this week.
Believe me though, compared to some of the people out there, it's nowhere as much as you think. Still, it is an impressive looking number For me at least.
Sunday, I went for a ride with my wife, just a lazy Sunday afternoon ride. What a joy. My wife and I already decided that it's something we can do together on Sundays from now on. We explore all the little suburbs that you won't normally see while driving in your car and there are some real gems for sale in those areas.
Tuesday was my highlight of the week though.
I went to my nephew's birthday party at Rietvlei Farm where they have some of the most awesome mountain biking trails through wooded areas or on hard packed sand through the bushes. What a difference it makes to be able to take your mountain bike on an actual off-road session.
My wife then proceeded to rent one of the bicycles they have available to the public. For a R100 for the day, you get to ride a Merida bicycle(not sure which one, but a reasonably decent hardtail, which is a bicycle without a rear suspension).
Let me tell you, I could not have been prouder of my wife if I tried.
She navigated that bicycle through the woods and over little bridges like a pro. It did me good to see her enjoying it as much as I was.
One thing though, when cycling through rough downhills and through wooded areas, you have to be able to turn your adult brain off. As a child, the only thing your brain could tell you was: "This is going to be fun!". As you get older though, that adult brain starts moving in and saying things like: "Yeah, but if you miss, it will hurt!".
Just switch that adult brain off. Put it into standby. You will never be able to enjoy yourself fully with that adult brain chattering away at the back of your (its?) mind.
Then, ending the cycling week for me until Sunday again, I cycled to work this morning. Today marks the first month anniversary of cycling to work on Fridays. I improved my time by 9 minutes! I cycled the 15km's to work in under an hour! I feel great!
There were some hills that I just powered through and I couldn't believe it when I found myself at the top of them with a minimum of effort. These same hills forced me to go down to my granny gear just three weeks ago.
Guess the exercise is finally doing its thing.
On the gaming front, I have rediscovered Chrono Trigger. This is a game that I must have started about six times already and I have never finished it. I am aiming to change that fact this time around and play it to completion. If you can get your hands on this game, I urge you to try it out!
Now if only I could game while I cycle...

Nice!
That is a great idea, I'd like to do something similar but I don't have someone who wants to do it with me, so you are very lucky, well done!
Cycling with da wife...
It was quite a challenge to get onto a mountain bike and cycle off-road, as I've not done this in 10 YEARS! That's when last I had a mountain bike - right now I have a hybrid...but it doesn't really like off-road.
Just to anyone trying out cycling, try the Merida range...that bike I rode was really great! With a soft front suspension that made me feel like a kid flying over obstacles!
This is gonna become a regular outing, and Tiny and I are now looking into getting me a mountain bike... but first we have to fix the washing machine!
