FFXIII... for one and all!
This will be a quick update.
There's been some great news (for me at least) from across the waters at the E3 Media and Business Summit currently taking place in sunny Los Angeles.
Square Enix has announced that the latest edition in their popular Final Fantasy series of RPG games, will not be developed exclusively for the Playstation 3 but will also be released on the Xbox 360!
On a personal level, if there ever was a reason that I would regret buying an Xbox, it would be because I wouldn't be able to play any Final Fantasy games on it.
No longer a problem for me!
Square Enix has released Final Fantasy VII through IX on the PS1 (some were PC ports as well) and Final Fantasy X through XII being exclusive to the PS2 (with XI being an online MMORPG).
So why change/stop the exclusivity deal?
I have my suspicions.
- The hardware install base for both consoles are pretty big. In other words, lots of people own lots of consoles. There is no specific console that has a clear lead in physical numbers
- They would have had to weigh in the options: Either get paid a lot of money for being exclusive, or get money from sales on both consoles. Can developers really afford to be exclusive these days?
- Microsoft paid a lot of money for Square Enix NOT to be exclusive. At least, Sony America CEO, Jack Tretton seems to believe this
At the end of the day though, I don't know and I don't care.
I get to continue my beloved Final Fantasy on the console I already own.

GTA 4 sales figures broke all records - i think this was the 1st all out release of a GTA title - it used to be released to PS 1st then later crumby ports to the other platforms ...
"Though Halo 3 held the all-time entertainment industry record for single-day sales for eight months, it could be a long time before anyone bests the record-shattering sales achieved by GTA IV.
On Wednesday, Take-Two Interactive, which owns GTA IV developer Rockstar Games, announced that the new game had raked in all-time records of $310 million on its launch day of April 29 and $500 million during its first week. The single-day figure shattered the previous record, set last September by Halo 3, of $170 million."
... and with the release of metal gear solid V PS3 console sales killed all other consoles in June.
at the E3 XBox press conference this notion was echoed where it was claimed that exclusive titles drive console sales!! Sony has done all it can to hang onto exclusivity of many of its titles, and came under fire from industry analysts claiming it was shooting itself in the foot like nintendo did in the past. its becoming clear that sony has a pretty well thought out strategy in terms of its progress - not sure if its the right one just yet - as XBox seems to be doing a hell of a lot right and seems to be 1 step ahead of sony constantly.
we'll see how it all pans out over the next few years.

I can say that I've completed about 75% of FFX and all its secrets. Takes forever!!! Wouldn't mind playing FF8 again and actually try FF9. Could never get that to work right.
Oh well.

Mind you, could you imagine FF on the Wii?! FF(Wii) = WiiFit + Excellent story :P
True...
But the title I had in mind just meant that it's not Sony exclusive anymore.
Also, it meant anyone with a next-gen console could now play it... and yes, I don't believe the Wii to be a next-gen console. Just an old-gen console with an ingenious/fun control method!

Playing something like Final Fantasy on the Wii will be the ultimate workout along with loads of entertainment. Just think about all the running and fighting you'll be doing. And the intricate designs ull be pulling in the air for all the spell casting. Sounds like loads of fun. Lolz!!!
