Telkom has better service... believe it or not!
ECN Telecoms is a company that promises ADSL lines and Internet and Voice connectivity over aforementioned lines.
I got so excited with the prospect that I would be able to get an actual line, a land line, with voice AND internet, and it would cost me less than what Telkom would ask me. Above all that, the actual ADSL line would not be one from Telkom
I immediately went to their website (which I feel almost dirty linking to, in case they ACTUALLY get free publicity from this small little website) to check out their offerings. It all looks good.
So I drop them a line on their "Contact Us" page.
I tell them that I'm very interested and I would love to hear from them. I ask them to give me a call after 2PM. I give them my telephone number. The whole nine yards.
That was last week Wednesday. I haven't heard a thing.
The thing about South Africa is that people are TIRED of not getting service. America is a country where you get stuff for free if you've been waiting 10 seconds longer than usual. In South Africa, waiting 10 weeks is normal and strangely enough, accepted.
I'm not going to wait for a simple thing like a phone-call.
Congratulations Telkom, for once you have done something better than your competitors. You answer your customer's calls.

Telkom has better service..? Huh?
Manie
Unfortunately we learnt the hard way last week about the realities of Telkom's service.
We opted for the Do-Broadband Package 4 and within a
matter of three days we had to hear twice that the previous operator signed us up for the wrong package.
If only they could source some people to help the public in real English and perhaps it will also help if they could find helpers who actually are capable of understanding plain English.....thennnnn and only
then will they be able to really fathom what their
customers actually want.
Better check with them
As far as I know, and according to their website www.do.co.za, they don't have a Do-Broadband Package 4. It only goes to Package 3 which is a 4 MBit line.
So I would recommend looking into this because they may have actually given you the Closer Option 4 (which is not only more expensive than just going for Closer 3 and 384k ADSL).
From my personal experience I found that a lot of the Telkom guys aren't that clued up when you phone in and sometimes have trouble understanding exactly what you want (I tried to cancel my ISP service with them once and they wanted to disconnect my line). I would recommend going to a Telkom shop (the one in TygerValley is open till late, even on weekends) and speak to them in person. That way you can speak to someone face to face and make sure that they understand exactly what you want.
Hope you get this sorted out.
It's actually...
a Telkom Closer package 4.
Or in their case, a Do-Broadband Package 2 with Closer benefits, for R558 / month.
I think everything is sorted out now.
Telkom has better service?
The service factor is still the part that bothers me.
We also signed up for the Do -Broadband promotion
and selected package 4. Lo and behold, after 3 days usage we were off the net. Why? -because they signed us up for the Dail-up one Gig Capped package. So in the mean time we were making calls to Telkom (mind u)
to fix their fault, thinking that we are on the 1000 free minutes deal, which forms part of the package.
When we eventually received some appology,we were told that everthing is now in order- only to find out a day later that we were once again sitting with the wrong package.
Well eventually we found some-one who could speak and understand English and the problem seems to be solved.
(Fingers Crossed ....and legs)
they might return calls but
they might return calls but hellcom still overcharges by allot...
Cheers vir eers.
