About Me

So this page is about me...

My name is Thinus Swart. For years, my online or gaming nick has been "Tiny". I used to be kind of small when I was younger and received the nickname at primary school.

Ever since then I've grown up a bit, but I guess the nickname kind of stuck! *g*

I live in South Africa and have been doing so since I was born (1981).

The Internet standards in South Africa really need to catch up with the rest of the world, but we've at least had ADSL (running at 512k) for the better part of about three years now. Bandwidth is still expensive and something like an "uncapped" connection will cost the equivalent of $360/month!

I currently live in Johannesburg and work for a retail chain in their Head Office, as their Database Administrator. I am a happily married, God-loving man and I absolutely am a geek.

I'm an average geek (or I would like to think so) with lots of different computer related hobbies.

I wouldn't consider myself a master of them all, but at least of some.

My hobbies include:

  • Programming (C#, PHP, Delphi)
  • 3D Modeling
  • Computer Games
  • Console Games
  • Web Design
  • War Gaming (Collecting, painting and playing)
  • Reading (especially Fantasy and Science Fiction)
  • DDR
  • The Internet

As with most geeks, I try and diversify myself in the computer world. I've played with almost all aspects of computers, including hardware, software, networks, databases, web design, 3D design, I mean you name it, I've probably fooled around with it.

As with ALL geeks, there's never enough time to get around to it all!

Also, unlike most geeks I like to keep myself fit (DDR!) and reasonably healthy. I like junk food as much as the next guy, but I also understand the reasons why you shouldn't have too much of it!

So this website is my blog page, where I will be listing my thoughts, showing you things I have seen on the web, around me and around my life.

I am inspired by people like Scott Kurtz famous for his webcomic PVP Online, Tycho and Gabe from Penny Arcade and Kris Straub who has a few webcomics but I mostly read Starslip Crisis. These are people who have made successes of their life, who have had the dedication to go online and start a business and their businesses have flourished because they cater for the geek in all of us!

But enough rambling for now.

I hope that one day, this site can become a hub for all geeks to come share their thoughts with the world. For now... enjoy the ride.

I also have a profile on LinkedIn accessible via this button:
